Clinical Faculty Mentoring

The Clinical Faculty Mentoring program, delivered in partnership by UBC CPD and UBC Faculty of Medicine (FoM) Faculty Affairs, pairs junior clinical faculty/new educators (mentees) with senior clinical faculty (mentors) and includes the 22 departments and schools that make up UBC’s Faculty of Medicine.

The Clinical Faculty Mentoring program continues to find success by offering a flexible schedule with minimum mandatory participation and supporting the UBC Faculty of Medicine’s departments to run their own specific mentoring programs, through sharing of tools, resources and processes. 

Dates: October 2025 to April 2026.  
Audience: Clinical Faculty in UBC Faculty of Medicine 
Credits: Up to 8.5 Mainpro+/MOC Section 3 for Mentees; Up to 1.5 Mainpro+/MOC Section 1 for Mentors

Mentees

Information for prospective mentees.

Throughout the year, mentees:

  • Receive personalized support from an experienced clinical faculty member.
  • Connect and network with colleagues.
  • Connect with professional development training across the faculty.

Commitment

  • Nine hours of total work over seven months.
  • Minimum of six mentoring meetings.
  • Facilitated information session with group learning.
  • Virtual check ins.

Eligibility

  • Clinical faculty/educators with an interest in teaching and supervising students.
  • An interest in mentorship and/or being more involved within the Faculty of Medicine.
  • Less experienced associates with an interest in receiving information and feedback from a respected member of their own field.  

Accreditation

Up to 9.0 Mainpro+/MOC Section 3 for Mentees

Cost

There is no cost to participate. 

 

Mentors

Information for prospective mentors.

During the program, mentors:

  • Develop and enhance skills through a two-way learning process by assisting and learning from a less experienced colleague.
  • Gain experience with giving and receiving feedback.
  • Connect and network with colleagues.

Commitment

  • Approximately eight hours of total work over seven months.
  • Mentor training session.
  • Minimum of six mentoring meetings.
  • Connect with professional development training across the faculty
  • Virtual check ins.

Eligibility

Senior faculty members who have experience in navigating the Faculty of Medicine or are experienced clinical faculty in their field.  

Accreditation

Up to 2.0 Mainpro+/MOC Section 1 for Mentors.
